My grandmother "Bernadette" once told me; "Women are like tea bags......you dip them in hot water to see how much they can take, but the longer they are in hot water; the stronger they become." When you are a mother of twins or triplets you have to be strong! Emotionally and physically. Without question, you will be challenged! You are dipped in hot water faster than you can imagine. Twins and triplets change your life. Ready or not...choose ready! Being a mother of four, is by far the hardest job.....I've ever loved. I am deeply rich for having them in my life.
Nothing quite prepares you for the arrival of one baby let alone two, three, or more! Or maybe you already have toddler children with twins or triplets on the way. Becoming a mother or father of multiple birth children can become overwhelming. You are already seeking information to make it easier on you and your family. This is a GREAT start. Even if you have had one or two singleton births before; there is no comparison to that of twins or triplets. They simply cannot be compared. With twins or triplets you need time management skills and gadgets to make your life easier.
I am a mother of multiple birth children. I will never forget the look on the face of a gentleman that I met at a nearby grocery store in Texas. I was pushing my Boy/Girl twins in their twin stroller with my left hand, while pulling the shopping cart with my right. The boys were off to school. I was totally comfortable zipping up and down the aisles. The twins were very entertained by the onlookers and their surroundings. This gentleman stood directly in front of my twin stroller causing me to stop suddenly in my tracks. He held two hands up high in the stop position. This man looked like he hadn't slept in three days! Before I could speak, he asked, "How do you do it? We just had triplets and we have a daughter that is three years old. How do you do it?" I smiled at him and told him to take a deep breath. Everything is going to be okay. He will be a great father to all and they will be just fine. He explained, "We don't have family here and I travel a lot." Having been in the trenches (my husband traveled extensively as well), I knew exactly what his family was going through. I jotted his wife's name, address and telephone down and promised to contact his wife and become a resource for help and support. I put a bunch of things together for them and coordinated help for dinners from nearby neighbors. Neighbors they didn't even know. I offered assistance on what to do and how to do it and why. I received a beautiful thank you letter from his wife months later. "You were a complete stranger, you did something for me that I will never forget - thank you!" This is what inspired me to help parents of multiples. To lessen the load and help them get through a very rough time. Reading about help is one thing, help showing up at your doorstep is another!
Many people brought my family dinner during the first 30 days. This was a blessing beyond words. It is my hope someone does that for you. I want to help you become better organized, better equip to handle the "How do I....." questions you are feeling right now. How on earth am I going to be able to get my kids ready for school in the morning and feed the twins or triplets. What if they both cry? How....How....How....
