Lets face it, when you are pregnant with twins or triplets you feel like the only thing that will fit you at some point is a circus tent! Most stores that offer maternity clothing just don't fit a mother that is carrying twins or triplets. So, what is a mother of multiple birth children to do? Yes, you could wear your husbands clothing or buy men's extra large, or extra, extra large shirts.
You might consider woman's world clothing. That's right. If you are working and are in need of professional clothing that will fit you throughout the pregnancy consider buying 1X, 2X and 3X sizes. The clothing is cheaper than maternity clothes, stylish, and colorful with options. Casual clothes in these sizes allow you to feel feminine and comfortable. Elastic waist pants that can be pulled down to bikini level in the front can be comfortable with a maternity slip and blouse over it. Maternity girdles help with support. Try the next size up so that it is comfortable and your belly grows with it. It should never be too tight to hinder circulation. If you see marks on your belly from the support - it is too tight. If you have any questions regarding whether or not a garment is too tight for your baby, ask your doctor.
Color me beautiful.
How many pieces of clothing do you have in your closet that is black. Why is it that women just seem to always go for that comfort zone black. Black, the make me look thinner, always versatile color, that blends with anything and everything. Yet when we are out and about and we see someone wearing a vibrant spring or summer color, we are compelled to look at it. Colors lift us up. Colors portray a mood we may not even be aware of. Did you know pink is a very calming color? Green of course is a positive go color. Red is a strong, confident, and also stop color. Which colors make you happy? Corals? Pinks? Greens? Blues? When you are selecting your wardrobe. Before and after pregnancy try to put some color in your life. Choose fabrics that make you feel good and comfortable. When we are pregnant our body temperature is typically warmer than ususal. Be sure to wear fabrics that breath like cottons and polyester blends. Materials that stretch and move with you are an excellent choice.
When the babies come home..... What to wear....
Be sure to check out the article on Morning Chaos. This article really hits home for families in the morning. We like to think of it as Organized Chaos. The need to get one step ahead of the morning rush to get everyone off to school, to practice, fed, burped, and changed all on time and on schedule.
For now, we are going to talk about moms fashion statement when the kids are home and you have been up half the night the first 90 days. You will need some survival items. If you have other children that need to be dropped off to school in the morning, and the twins or triplets need to be fed; you will have to get up early. Think of it as the sign that says "curve ahead" when you are driving down the road. It prepares you for what lies ahead so you can plan for it. Mornings are like that. You will need to organize school stuff by the door for your older children. Have them choose and layout what they plan to wear the next day. Encourage and show them how to make their lunch the night before if they are old enough to do it on their own. Get up early and take a quick shower. What to wear? A good survival item is a baseball cap. You choose the type, (Nike, Addidas, Under Armour, Russell) you name it. Sweatpants with the line on each side of the pant or capri sweatpants. You can't go wrong with the athletic look. Everyone knows you gave birth not too long ago. The althletic look will give the impression to the world you are off to the gym to loose that baby fat. Even though that may not be what is actually happening. You'll need to dress in comfortable clothes. This will help you feel like you've got it together even more, to take on your busy day as a mom of twins or triplets.
Long hair or Short hair?
Hair and Lipstick
Short hair, or longhair, what to choose? After the babies are born and at home you will not have the time you used to have to blow dry and style your hair. This really depends on the type of hair you have. A short hair cut might work well if you can let it air dry and toss in some mouse or leave in conditioner. Long hair has much more flexibility. You can put it in a ponytail. Clip it up. Pull it back with a barrette. Pull the pony tail through a baseball cap. Braid it. Use a headband. You've got flexibility. If you have a cut that requires blow drying you are cutting into some serious time in the morning. Think about it. Even if you get up early, you've got a window of time of about 30 minutes. The remaining time will be used preparing bottles, feeding, burping and changing before it is time to go. If you have older children, you've still got to get them up, fed, and dressed for school. Your babies will feed every hour and a half to two hours in the beginning. Timing is everything.
Consider these options when choosing your hair style. Short, shoulder length or longer. It is always best not to switch to anything drastically new in hair styles before the babies are born. You will be dealing with change, and this is not a good time to introduce a new major change such as going from hair past the shoulder to hair above the neck line. Your hairstyle needs to be easy to maintain during the first three to six months.
Lipstick is a great choice for a splash of color when you don't have time for make up. You can even dab some on your finger and blend some on the cheeks of your face to add a little color if you are in a time crunch for make up. Best yet, just dab on some lip gloss or lip color. It will make you feel like you are not washed out and don't have time for yourself. You would be surprised how brightening your lips can lift your day.
